The Covid-19 pandemic made people realize the importance of oxygen. There were several instances around the world where lack of oxygen became a big concern, especially in a country such as India which is densely populated.

In a huge step to create a robust mechanism for making medical oxygen available in the remotest part of India, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar inaugurated OxyAid, India’s first IoT-enabled mobile containerized oxygen generator truck, at The Art of Living International Center, Bengaluru, October 17th.

India has a vast population concentrated in villages. Covid-19 highlighted the poor connectivity of these villages with nearby towns and cities, making it difficult to provide medical oxygen in time. It makes it difficult for medical oxygen to reach in time. The OxyAid truck, which is part of the National Medical Oxygen Grid project, aims to ensure last-mile delivery and availability of medical oxygen in rural and remote areas.

“This initiative will empower rural and urban India with easily accessible and affordable medical-grade oxygen,” Gurudev said at the launch, praising the community service drive project.

“This is a much-needed solution that has been developed with many scientists on board. This low-cost solution can aid the supply of medical oxygen in rural and urban areas. Art of Living will fully support their introduction and distribution in villages,” Gurudev added.

At the launch, OxyAid founder Mr. Mallikarjun Dandinawar emphasized that the project was envisioned even before Covid-19 struck the world.

“Let us make it clear that this concept was not envisioned due to the covid-19 pandemic, though this phase saw a sudden spurt of demand for medical oxygen throughout our nation,” said Mr. Dandinawar, further adding, “Creating this National Medical Oxygen Grid is an exercise of laying a strong foundation of Rural Healthcare Infrastructure with the basic premise of arresting the migration of patients from villages to cities. This will ensure accountability, skilling, and empowerment of our government hospitals by leveraging IOT technology.”

This social initiative tackles India’s five challenges: availability, accessibility, affordability, accountability, and infrastructure. The rural-India-centric project is particularly hailed for its IoT-enabled functioning.
In its attempt to save lives in time and be prepared for the future, OxyAid is the most effective community-focused project for India and its people. It is touted as a national mission to ensure the first fundamental right enshrined in our constitution, the Right to Life.
