The New Year!

January 6, 2013 | 1 min read

As the clock ticked in the midnight,
Fireworks flashed through the sky.

Explosions heard everywhere,
Not to wake up but to put people into intoxicants.

Drums fell on deaf ears
For the lame to dance on the darkest hour.

The end relished, the beginning perished
Without a sense of ownership.

The lonely New Year Sun rose quietly
Only empty streets to watch its glory and beauty.

A deadly silence spoke in volumes
Of the time that we are in now.

A ray of hope pierced through the earth
Looked for the values deep hidden.

The majestic Eagle kept wondering
If man would ever learn new ways of celebration

This is a great wake up message. It is indeed an irony that the new year is started with inactivity and lethargy. This trend will hopefully change as awareness and spirituality spread across the world.

Dearest GURUJI, YOUR NEW YEAR POEM was so beautiful and soul touching . Each word carried such depth and concern. However much i get put down by life’s hurdles i don’t forget that I am very blessed and lucky to have YOU in my life. And now to be so close to YOU in the Ashram relishing moment to moment and feeling grateful for everything. May i be useful to YOU in all the great work YOU are taking up for a STRESS FREE & VIOLENCE FREE SOCIETY. May I be able to contribute selflessly towards a wonderful loving society.

When you said our day begins at the break of the dawn, I realized the fallacies/immaturity of wishing someone (for birthday) at the stroke of midnight…
How we get carried away by western culture even in the micro aspects of our lifestyle…
    What a beautiful poem, Gurudev…
